ATM Technology Being Upgraded

To better serve their customers and drum up business, banks are adding new technology to their ATMs.If not presently, you may soon be able to use an ATM touch screen to:
1.Apply for a loan.
2.Video conference with a banker even outside of business hours.
3.Pre-stage ATM transactions with a mobile phone at your location,so that it is almost complete when you get to the ATM.
4.Pay bills.
5.Send money to friends.
6.Increase your ATM withdrawal limit.
7.Withdraw one,five and 10 dollar bills,not just 20s and 50s.
8.Do retirement planning.
One possible drawback of the more sophisticated machines is longer wait times at ATMs if someone is video conferencing or doing multiple transactions.

Tech Trends:Google Exec Predicts Cheaper Smart Phones

Eric Schmidt, the software engineer who is Google's Executive Chairman, remains the public face of the company after having left the CEO role. His wide-ranging thoughts are heard
everywhere from the halls of Congress to the World Economic Forum that was just held in Davos,Switzerland.
Everything feels sluggish because there's not enough demand,Mr.Schmidt remarked in Davos, but the Internet continues to win advertising, which is less expensive on it.We haven't seen the slowness as hard as others.
Phones that are powerful will go down in price to 60-70 dollars for a billion people.People outside the Western world will rely on mobile phones in fundamental ways because they don't have access to TV and libraries.
We at Google love advertising and we innovate in many ways in it.We're coming up with new ways to make sure your advertising money is well spent.
In the cloud, you don't have to use email to collaborate.People need service and support, and applications can be built on top of it even if it's free.If 100 million people use it,you can make money from it,Eric Schmidt asserted.
Google's Q4 earnings were below estimates, causing the share price to drop 57 dollars.Wells Fargo downgraded the firm from outperform to market perform.

Social Networking and Beyond

The whole social networking space has been hard for Google to monetize,CEO Eric Schmidt said. The development of advertising tools and platforms on MySpace has been difficult for Google, and it's working on that.Eventually, there will be five billion phones for six billion people. There will be small phones, big phones, fast networks wherever we go.The Internet is growing faster outside the U.S.;so is advertising,so revenue should grow faster there.Europe has been Google's stronghold for a long time. Now Google is doing well in Japan and nicely in China.Google has 50 development centers worldwide,Mr.Schmidt noted.
