Former President Trump to Surrender In Person - Revised

Former President Donald Trump has decided to surrender to the authorities at the E.Barrett Prettyman federal courthouse in Washington,DC on 3 August 2023 at 4:00 pm Eastern.Security arrangements and threat monitoring are being carried out by the Washington Metropolitan Police Department,Federal Protective Service,U.S. Secret Service and the Department of Homeland Security.Once Mr.Trump enters the courthouse,he will be placed under arrest and fingerprinted.No mugshot will be taken because Mr.Trump is so well-known.Then he will be arraigned by a magistrate judge,which involves reading him the charges against him and giving him any instructions the judge deems necessary.He will not see the trial judge,U.S. District Court Judge Tanya Chutkan,until his next appearance.*So the charges against the Former President are four felonies:conspiracy to defraud the United States;conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding;obstructing an official proceeding;and civil rights violation (attempting to deprive citizens of the right to have their votes counted).* After his arraignment,Mr.Trump plans to address the media at the airport.

A judge has been assigned to this case.She is U.S. District Court Judge Tanya Chutkan.Judge Chutkan will likely conduct a speedy trial.She has meted out stiff sentences for other defendants in the January 6 Insurrection cases. The Former President must appear on Thursday 3 August and has the option to be booked by teleconference in this particular court.He can also choose to surrender in person at the federal courthouse in Washington,DC.He can expect to be freed on his own recognisance as in his previous arraignments.
