Tuesday Tidbits:Spider-Man;ISM Report;U-2 Spy Plane

This is the housing sell season, said CNBC host Jim Cramer. There's no inventory.Prices are being bid up,I know in the tristate area. It's too hot.*
I like 2:45 for a stock market rally.A great rally takes place at 2:45 and runs till 3:15.That's the sort of rally you want to trust.*
Though topping the May 2-4 box office,Sony Pictures' The Amazing Spider-Man 2 didn't do quite as well at bragging rights over its opening as Disney's Captain America:The Winter Soldier did in its April debut.Spider-Man,starring Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, brought in 92 million dollars, while Captain America had earned 95 million. It's all Disney right now,the popular analyst Jim Cramer pointed out.
About 40% of the year's box office is made over the summer cinema season, which begins the first weekend in May.*
The Institute for Supply Management's April service sector report came in stronger than expected at 55.2.Over 50 indicates expansion. There was a big jump in new orders from 53.4 to 58.2.Employment in the sector held basically steady at 51.3,versus March's 51.6 reading.Inventory backlog fell, while traffic and sales were up due to a break in the weather.*
A U-2 spy plane on a mission over the Los Angeles Basin overwhelmed the region's primary air traffic control center, the Los Angeles Air Route Traffic Control Center in Palmdale last Wednesday, causing up to 500 delays for a one hour period at LAX Airport, the FAA said. The secret aircraft apparently had to input a lot of waypoints, confusing the system that safely spaces airline flights. The U-2 was actually flying at an altitude of 60,000 feet, far above the airliners.Mitigation measures were put in place and engineers are making software changes to prevent a reoccurrence of the incident.
The U-2s are known to fly out of Edwards Air Force Base,California. The US Air Force is phasing out its fleet of about 36 of the 1980s version of the Cold War era spy plane.*

Sublime and Ridiculous:The 85th Annual Academy Awards

When Sally Field, wearing a red Valentino dress, arrived at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles for the 85th Annual Academy Awards, she brought her years of accumulated wisdom with her. She felt that she wouldn't care if she won or lost the best supporting actress competition for her role in "Lincoln."It wouldn't determine what she got out of the experience.
Her expressions during the ceremony seemed to back that up.There was no distress on her face when she did in fact lose to Ann Hathaway. She smiled and applauded when others received their awards. That someone would be surly about not winning an Oscar is something only in the minds of the media. It is perhaps their innermost wish,so they will have something outlandish to report about.
Anne Hathaway was attired in a white Prada dress and Tiffany jewelry. She said she looked up to Field and her other competitors.Best actress winner Jennifer Lawrence.22,wore a Dior Haute Couture strapless white gown which she tripped over as she ascended the steps to the stage to receive her Oscar for "Silver Lining Playbook."She was uninjured and gave a simple, unaffected acceptance speech.
Vocalist Shirley Bassey,76,gave a remarkably competent performance of "Goldfinger,"a James Bond theme which she first sang in the 1960s.
Once you discover him,I think Lincoln absolutely stays with you forever, said  Daniel Day-Lewis of his best actor Oscar-winning role in "Lincoln".He is the only man to win best actor three times-out of just five films,no less. His acceptance speech was basically an exercise in humility.
Other winners were:
Best supporting actor:Christopher Waltz,"Django Unchained"
Best foreign language film:"Amour,"Austria
Best original score:Mychael Danna,"Life of Pi"
Best original song:Adele Adkins and Paul Epworth,"Skyfall"
Best director:Ang Lee of Taiwan,"Life of Pi"
Best picture:"Argo"
A low point of the ceremony was host Seth MacFarlane cracking a joke about Abraham Lincoln's assassination. His other wisecracks were better received.
First Lady Michelle Obama delivered a surprise short speech via satellite feed from the White House on the best picture award, citing the importance of the arts for young people and announcing the winner,"Argo."

Hollywood stars gathered at the International Ballroom of the Beverly Hills Hilton Sunday Night for the 70th Annual Golden Globe Awards. The honors are bestowed by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.
Fans seated in bleachers cheered as movie stars strolled to the hotel, the actresses posing in their couture on the red carpet.Head-turner of the night was Zooey Deschanel of TV series "The New Girl" in her scarlet Oscar de la Renta dress.
Nicole Kidman said she'd had a great year in terms of the diversity of her roles. That's what an actor seeks.
Jennifer Lawrence of "The Silver Linings Playbook" said she will star in the sequel to the hugely popular "The Hunger Games."She felt that giving the people what they liked so much in the first film was the main consideration in making a sequel.
Anne Hathaway of "Les Miserables" said the ceremony was never ho-hum.It means something's going very well for you.She felt like herself in her Chanel dress.
Kevin Costner of "Hatfields and McCoys" said he just thought it was smart writing. It was filmed in Romania. He will be playing Superman's father in the upcoming "Man of Steel."
Jessica Chastain of "Zero Dark Thirty" was dressed in Calvin Klein Collection and Harry Winston jewelry.Ironically, she was getting recognised for portraying a CIA agent who cannot accept any recognition for her key role in taking out Osama bin Laden.
