Xerox the Consistently Underrated

Despite the impression its low share price may convey,Xerox is both a services and a technology company. The company has been using data to broaden the solution set that we have, said CEO Ursula Burns. We see uptick in the developing economies;while in America,we started to see growth in large enterprises.Europe is totally uneven. We're still profitable there.Uncertainty is one of the worst things you can have for business, and we certainly have that in Europe right now.The prospects for growth in Europe are high for our services business. They will need to engage. They can't be in austerity forever. Most of our contracts are written;83% of our business is an annuity business,so I think we're gonna be O.K.As those contracts come to fruition,we will be able to progress to a strong margin base.Initial public offerings are as much media events as they are real events.Facebook will settle in and become a normal trading company. They will have to get women and diversity on the board,or it will hurt them,Ms.Burns observed. Xerox is trading at well below book value, and paid a 2.4% dividend as of the close of trade on Friday. Xerox(XRX)

Xerox Delivering On B2B

With the acquisition of Affiliated Computer Services last year,50% of Xerox's revenue is now from services,CEO Ursula Burns points out.Although we are still strong in tech,we deliver core back office services, and that should enable us to deliver to shareholders.
We have a good business mix, from small to large enterprise to government. In Japan, the good news is there's stability with Fuji Xerox. We've been able to deliver a strong first quarter there. There will be some supply constraints in the second quarter from the earthquake and tsunami.
In the U.S.,we see improvement. We definitely are seeing the look-up.There's a little more stability and positive help from the government.People are feeling the improvement of '09 and '10.
We are affected by the swings of the yen on our cost basis and by commodities. As long as our clients who are multinationals in the U.S. do more business, anything that allows them to be more confident allows us to add to our employment,Ms.Burns explained.
The company strives to free businesses to focus on their customers by providing its signature office equipment as well as document production, management and business process solutions.

Xerox Expands Business Model

Xerox has been augmenting its business model recently. There is nothing growing faster than data,CEO Ursula Burns observes.Their approach is to make the data overflow more useful.Xerox is spending a lot on educating its sales force about this, and is funding the business by becoming more efficient.
Smaller devices and high end color had a step-out in Q2.The one place Xerox is gonna focus is outside the U.S.,taking business process outsourcing where it hasn't been introduced. They're also spending sales dollars on educating people that Xerox has solutions to cost-effective color printing. Most business processing is done internally,so there is a big market for outsourcing out there.Companies would like to spend more time on their real business of serving their customers.
At its core,Xerox is a huge technology company. When they get cash, their number one requirement is paying down their debt:the Affiliated Computer Services acquisition. That should be accomplished by mid-2011.Then Xerox will turn to shareholder return and investing.
Xerox is a different company today. They help companies manage their infrastructure effectively.Pay attention to what Xerox is today, helping its clients change their businesses and serve their customers better,CEO Ursula Burns pleads.
Xerox was recently upgraded in a Barron's magazine article for this move into outsourcing.
