Norwegian Grandmaster Magnus Carlsen won both the Rapid and Blitz World Chess Championships 2023 in Samarkand,Uzbekistan.He is the dominant figure in world chess today.The Russian Woman Grandmaster Anastasia Bodnaruk won the Rapid Championship,and her compatriot Woman Grandmaster Valentina Gulina won the Blitz Championship.

Nurgyul Salimova is a Bulgarian of Turkish descent.In 2019,FIDE,the governing body of world chess,awarded her the titles of International Master and Woman Grandmaster.The World Rapid and Blitz Championships opened in Samarkand,Uzbekistan on 26 December 2023.
