The first Vulcan rocket launch - 8 January 2024 - Cape Canaveral Space Force Station
The United Launch Alliance Vulcan Centaur rocket operated nominally on its inaugural flight. The Peregrine lunar lander experienced a serious propellant anomaly while in Earth orbit and is not expected to reach the Moon. Some of the experiments onboard Peregrine may be operable, however, and Astrobotic Technology will salvage what it can of the mission. It was the first of NASA's new Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) missions,a high risk effort to encourage commerical access to the Moon, paving the way for crewed lunar landings by the Artemis missions.
