A view of Sagittarius A*,the supermassive black hole at the centre of our Milky Way galaxy,is presented by the European Southern Observatory (ESO).It was taken by the Event Horizon Telescope,a global network of radio telescopes including one operated by ESO at Atacama,Chile.The new polarised image of Sgt A* is similar to the image of the supermassive black hole at the centre of the M87 galaxy because they both have strong magnetic fields.Despite what the video says,Sagittarius A* is in a quiescent mode now,not eating much of anything.Credits:ESO,University of Arizona

According to NASA JPL/Caltech,the Spectro-Photometer for the History of the Universe,Epoch of Reionization and Ices Explorer (SPHEREx) mission will provide the first all-sky spectral survey.The results will be publicly accessible.Over its planned two-year mission,the SPHEREx Space Observatory will gather data on more than 300 million galaxies and more than 100 million stars in the Milky Way to ascertain the origins of the universe.The spacecraft will survey the sky in both optical and near-infrared light.The data will be used to search for the building blocks of life,water and organic molecules,in the Milky Way's stellar nurseries where stars are born fron gas and dust,as well as disks around stars where planets form.*The mission will create a map of the entire sky in 96 color bands,far exceeding the color resolution of previous all-sky maps.It will also identify targets for more detailed study by the James Webb Space Telescope and the future Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope.*The spacecraft is being manufactured by Ball Aerospace,a division of Ball Corporation.Besides JPL/Caltech and international scientists,the SPHEREx team includes scientists from UC Irvine;Ohio State U.;the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics;Arizona State U.;the University of Arizona;Rochester Institute of Technology;Argonne National Lab;and Johns Hopkins University.SPHEREx will gather enough data to keep scientists busy for years.* BALL Corp (BALL)
