Tour: Supernova 1987A Pulsar Wind Nebula - YouTube - astrophysics/cosmology
NuStar, the Nuclear Spectroscopic Telescope Array is a space observatory operated by NASA/Jet Propulsion Laboratory-California Institute of Technology. Its mission is to study the universe in high energy X-rays to better understand the dynamics of black holes, exploding stars and extreme active galaxies.Together with the NASA Chandra X-ray Observatory and the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array,a network of 60 radio telescopes in Chile,it has been studying SN 1987A,one of the most studied objects in recent times.SN 1987A is only about 170,000 light years from Earth,so is right next door.Within SN 1987A,a neutron star, the densest object in the universe, has been ascertained that is also a pulsar, the twin bursts of energy coming out of each end being detected as pulses.*Cosmology is the study of the origin, evolution and structures of the universe.*space observatories

ALMA's extreme makeover: the Wideband Sensitivity Upgrade - YouTube - astrophysics
The Wideband Sensitivity Upgrade is expected to be a gamechanger for astronomy.Operating partners for ALMA includes the National Radio Astronomy Observatory based at the University of Virginia campus in Charlottesville,Virginia. It is operated by the US National Science Foundation. The third operating partner is the Japanese Astronomical Observatory.Additional partners include the USNSF;NINS Japan;NRC (Canada);NSTC and ASIAA (Taiwan);and KASI (Republic of Korea).ALMA is located in the Chajnantor Plateau of the Chilean Andes Mountains.

Close Up Images Show Something Weird is Happening on Betelgeuse - YouTube - The Secrets of the Universe - astrophysics
Betelgeuse is only 550 light years from Earth. When it goes supernova,we will be able to see it in the daytime for a few months. It isn't close enough, though,to pose any danger to Earth. It's been ascertained that the rapid rotation of the star is an optical illusion caused by the star's boiling surface.

See the Milky Way's Sagittarius A* black hole in an amazing polarized Event Horizon Telescope image - Space.com - astrophysics
A view of Sagittarius A*,the supermassive black hole at the centre of our Milky Way galaxy,is presented by the European Southern Observatory (ESO).It was taken by the Event Horizon Telescope,a global network of radio telescopes including one operated by ESO at Atacama,Chile. The new polarised image of Sgt A* is similar to the image of the supermassive black hole at the centre of the M87 galaxy because they both have strong magnetic fields.Despite what the video says,Sagittarius A* is in a quiescent mode now,not eating much of anything.Credits:ESO,University of Arizona
