Tour: Supernova 1987A Pulsar Wind Nebula - YouTube - astrophysics/cosmology
NuStar, the Nuclear Spectroscopic Telescope Array is a space observatory operated by NASA/Jet Propulsion Laboratory-California Institute of Technology. Its mission is to study the universe in high energy X-rays to better understand the dynamics of black holes, exploding stars and extreme active galaxies.Together with the NASA Chandra X-ray Observatory and the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array,a network of 60 radio telescopes in Chile,it has been studying SN 1987A,one of the most studied objects in recent times.SN 1987A is only about 170,000 light years from Earth,so is right next door.Within SN 1987A,a neutron star, the densest object in the universe, has been ascertained that is also a pulsar, the twin bursts of energy coming out of each end being detected as pulses.*Cosmology is the study of the origin, evolution and structures of the universe.*space observatories
