Moving Roman: Propulsion - YouTube - NASA Goddard - astrophysics/cosmology

The NASA Nancy Grace Roman Infrared Space Telescope is currently under construction. It is named for the visionary astronomer Nancy Grace Roman (1925-2018) who made significant contributions to stellar classification and motions. She was NASA's inaugural Chief Astronomer in the 1960s and 1970s.As such, she was the first female NASA executive. She was instrumental in the planning and development of the Hubble Space Telescope and was one of the key founders of the US civilian space program. In sum,she was a trailblazing scientest. The Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope is primed for discoveries in astrophysics and cosmology with its Wide Field capabilities. It is slated for launch by May 2027.*Cosmology is the study of the origin and structures of the universe.

Space to Ground: Outside the Hatch: April 26, 2024 - NASA Johnson Space Center

Roscosmos Cosmonauts Oleg Kononenko and Nikolai Chubb conducted a spacewalk in which they installed a panel of a synthetic radar system on the Aoka module and an experiment that tests corrosion on the Poist module. The MISSE-18-NASA experiment exposes materials to the harshness of space to test them for uses on the Gateway lunar space station or lunar surface and a coating that could help prevent salt corrosion at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station before launch.A medical experiment tests magnetic nanoparticles that may kill melanoma skin cancer cells. Finally,SpaceX Crew-8 astronauts suited up to move their Crew Dragon spacecraft to another port to make way for the Boeing Crew Flight Test Starliner spaccraft.

Gravitational Waves: Ripples In Space-Time - NASA Goddard - astrophysics

Notes by NASA Goddard:Gravitational waves are ripples in the fabric of spacetime. They are caused by some of the most violent and energetic events in the universe, including colliding black holes;merging neutron stars or white dwarf stars;the wobble of neutron stars that are not perfect spheres;and possibly even the remnants of gravitational radiation create by the birth of the universe.*Gravitational waves were predicted by Einstein's General Theory of Relativity, but weren't confirmed until 2017.The NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope was able to photograph the galactic source of the waves. This opens up a new era of multi-messenger astronomy.

Scientists discover cause of brightest-ever burst of light | BBC News - YouTube - cosmology

According to US scientists,it was caused by a small star supernova 2.4 billion light years away, with gamma ray emissions 100 times brighter than anything ever seen before. The blast lasted seven minutes. It doesn't make sense based on our current model. It's estimated that such an event occurs only once every 10,000 years. Cosmology is the study of the origin and structures of the universe. What would Einstein have thought about this strange event? If there's a black hole involved, the answer could be there.

Nobel-winning physicist Peter Higgs dies "peacefully in his home" | DW News - physics/astrophysics

Peter Higgs had a brilliant insight that was the missing link in physics and astrophysics. How did particles get their mass?He postulated the existence of the Higgs boson as the solution to this dilemma.Indeed,it was confirmed in 2012 at the Hadron Collider in Berne,Switzerland. It was the particle that the media called the "God particle" since it underpins the creation.Yet Peter Higgs was unfailingly humble and uncomfortable with his noteriety.
