NASA Science Live: Our First Commercial Science Delivery to the Moon - Lunar Science

Intuitive Machines Inc (LUNR) hosted by Tahira Allen Dr.Sue Lederer CLPS Project Scientist Dr.Debra Needham CLPS Program Scientist The mission was largely a scientific success,including the first ever radio telescope on the Moon,which gathered data both in transit to the Moon and on the lunar surface.The instrument which didn't work right was the Plume Surface Studies,whose goal was to image the engine exhaust plume as it churned up dust on the lunar surface.Its secondary goal was to image the exposed fresh surface below the lander throughout the lunar day for science investigations.It wasn't able to collect data on descent this time,but we were able to test it in space,as well as after landing to help prepare for its next mission,which will be on the Firefly spacecraft.

Odysseus lander reaches moon, but tips over

Unfortunately,the mission isn't a complete success as IM-1 flopped over on its side.Some of the scientific instruments will work,but others won't.It hasn't been revealed yet which ones will work.So NASA and Intuitive Machines will face some hard questions.

Propellant Tanks for Artemis III on the Move at Michoud - Orion Program Update

Intuitive Machines-1 Launch to the Moon (Official NASA Broadcast) - 15 February 2024 - NASA Kennedy Space Center - night launch

You will see:liftoff;deployment of IM-1 spacecraft to begin its voyage to the Moon;first acquisition of carrier signal from IM-1 (confirmation of spacecraft communicating with mission control).IM-1 carries six NASA payloads,including a laser reflctor to help with future linar landings and a small radio telescope to scope out the possibilities for radio telescopes on the Moon,and ascertain the level of extraneous interference with Artemis Lunar Science activity.

NASA to Study Effects of Radio Noise on Lunar Science

Intuitive Machines' IM-1 Mission will be launched to the Lunar South Pole as one of the NASA Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS).One of the payloads will be Radio Wave Observation at the lunar Surface of the photo-Electron Sheath.It is a small radio telescope that will observe the radio environment at the Moon's surface,including both natural and artificial sources.*Intuitive Machines (LUNR)
