Who Invented the Telecom Satellite?
It was the science fiction author and futurist Sir Arthur C. Clarke CBE (1917-2008).He correctly perceived that geostationary satellites would make ideal telecom relays.He made this discovery while serving as a Royal Air Force officer in World War II.Clarke wrote a number of highly regarded scifi novels,including Childhood's End;2001:A Space Odyssey;and Rendevous With Rama.He had a first class degree in mathematics and physics from King's College in London.Clarke spent the last three decades of his life in Sri Lanka,where he had gone to scuba dive.He also hosted the TV series Arthur C. Clarke's Mysterious World.
