Election Update:Michigan Certifies Biden Win
The Michigan State Board of Canvassers certified President-elect Joe Biden's victory in the state this afternoon,a substantial blow to President Donald Trump's attempt,in the eye of many,to subvert the will of the American people. The board voted 3 yeas and one abstention to certify the election and award the state's 16 electoral college votes to Biden. The abstention was by one of two Republican members of the board, who serve along with two Democrats.
The canvassers are required by law to certify election results presented to them.If a board declines to certify,a court order may be obtained to compel them to do so.Certification is a nonpartisan process.*
In Pennsylvania,at least four counties will miss the certification deadline. This is not considered unusual, according to state election officials, the counties, hobbled by factors such as staffing shortages because of the pandemic, are expected to submit their returns by the end of the month for the Pennsylvania Secretary of State to certify, well in advance of the 8 December Safe Harbor deadline, when states customarily submit their slates of electors to Congress.*
President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris won a projected 306 electoral votes-much more than the 270 needed to win the presidency, and an edge of more than six million popular votes.*
The White House staff is reportedly admitting privately that it's all over for Mr. Trump.*
The General Services Administration has officially authorised the transition process to begin, providing funds, office space and official contacts to the Biden-Harris team.*
